Hannah's Proportion Post

Task1)
Define:
Ratio - A comparison of quantities that have the same units.

It can be shown in 3 different ways; black balls to white balls
3/6 ; 3:6 ; 3 to 9

Rate - A comparison of two quantities measured in different units.
ex: Harry skateboarded for 25 km in 2 hours. Zayn skateboarded for 45 km in 3 hours. Who is faster?

Proportion - An equation which states that two ratios are equal. It has 2 equivalent fractions (rations)

Task2)
1) 5 hours to travel 360 miles is about_____ mph

2)As a playgroup worker, if I increase the amount of apple juice I am serving at the playgroup from 25 ml to 100 ml, how much should I increase the the orange juice to, to keep the quantities in the same proportion? The orange juice is 50 ml to start with.
Answer: 200ml

Task3)
What are the three ways you can prove that equivalent ratio statements are true?
3/4 = 12/16 or 4/9 = 16/32

Task4)

Task5)

1. Does it seem fair?
No, I really don't this this is fair at all!

2.
With what you know about proportion look and read what is in the image above. Does it seem just and fair? Why have you made this choice?
I really don't think this is fair at all because the CEO who made a $3 billion fraud was sentenced for only 40 months in prison. If "it was the biggest corporate fraud in U.S. history" why should he only be sentenced for 40 months? Then, the fact that a homeless man who stole a $100 bill just to survive, but surrenders himself is sentenced for 15 years in prison! This is not fair at all. Society is so unfair, it is just ridiculous.
3.What would you have done if you were the judge?
If I was the judge, I would have sentenced the homeless man 1 month in prison. For the CEO, 15 years in prison, or something a long those lines.
