Math Textbook

Question 6:
Step 1: Find what makes 64, so 8x8=64
Step 2: Find what makes 8, 4x4=8
Step 3: Find what makes 4, 2x2,
Step 4: Circle the prime numbers

64 is a perfect square number because you can multiply 8 by it's self to make 64.
Another way of saying that is...the square root of 64 is 8, it is a whole number, so it is a perfect square.

The area: 64m². You have to remember to draw the "tickeys" to show that it is a "real" square.

Step 1: Find the square root of 28 900
Step 2: The square root will tell what the length and width is
Step 3: Add the side together to find the perimeter which is 680
Step4: Then, the teacher told the students to do two laps, so you would multiply 680 by 2
that will give you 1360m

a² + b² = c²

That formula means, that if you take the legs of the triangle, square them, then add them, you will find (c²) which is the hypotenuse². So if you have a right triangle, the legs² will equal the hypotenuse².

We Day

Today, on November 23,2011, I got to experience a life changing event. There were a lot of speakers talking about how we, kids, adults, teenagers, and well, basically everyone can make a difference to this world. 16 000 attended the life changing event, We Day. I will now share what I remember.

There was a girl named Hannah Taylor. When she was six years old, she saw a man eating food from a garbage can, and wanted to change that. So at the age of eight, she decided to make her fundraiser on the homeless people and people in need of food.

Just follow your heart.
-Hannah Taylor
Rick Hansen, he's in a wheelchair, but that didn't stop him to give up on life. He is known as the " Man in motion ". He wanted to be in the Olympics doing physical activities with his legs but at the age of 15 he got into a car accident and got paralysed from the waist down. He began racing in wheelchair marathons. Rick Hansen is a leader because the things he does allows people to believe in themselves.

If enough of us choose to change even one small thing, together we have the power to change anything.
-Rick Hansen

Michel Chikwanine. When he went onto the stage, the things he told, without using his voice, wanted to make me shed into tears. He held us signs, saying..
Sign 1: "Hi my name is Michel. "
Sign 2: "One day, while playing soccer, a group of armed rebels abducted me.
Sign 3: "They took me to their camp"
Sign 4: "And cut my wrists."
Sign 5: " While bleeding, they rubbed gun powder and cocaine on my wounds."
Sign 6: " Then, they made me hold a gun."
Sign 7: " And they yelled."
Sign 8: " shoot! ... SHOOT!
Sign 9: " They made me shoot my best friend."
Sign 10: "His name was Kevin."
Sign 11: "I was forced to be a child soldier."
Sign 12: "I was silenced along with 300 000 other children."
Sign 13: "For children who are silenced by poverty and exploitation."
Sign 14: "I ask you to join me."
Sign 15: " In total silence. Please now all rise. And stand up for those who have no voice."
*everyone gets up, and Michel covers his mouth*

ON NOVEMBER 30,2011 Stand up for children's rights, and join the Vow of Silence. What you basically do is not talk, no phones, no computer, no communication to other people. We stay silent because we stand up for those who have no voice, who aren't aloud to speak for their-selves because they are facing something really difficult in their life.

Mary's Pay It Forward Post

1)What is "Pay it Forward"?
Pay it forward is a movie, but is a saying too. The movie is about a young boy trying to make a difference, he came up with an idea of if he did 3 acts of kindness to 3 random people, those 3 random people would do another act of kindness to 3 other people, and so on! That would make a difference to the world wouldn't it? That's where people got the saying too, I guess. Man, if everyone gave part of paying it forward, I don't think there would be anything to be worried about, like about wars and stuff like that.

2) Act of kindness.

My act of kindness was volunteering at the Winnipeg Harvest and to sell cookies for the Lady Bug Foundation. I did these act of kindnesses I wanted to help someone in need of something, like people who go to food banks is because they can't really afford food. I really want to give the people in need, a lot of things, but I just don't have the money to afford anything right now. When I am older, I KNOW I'm going to help a lot of people and everything. Giving money to a foundation is a good idea, to me, because they can collect a lot of money and give it all to other people, that they find need the money the most. At Winnipeg Harvest, we put canned goods into bags, and sorted potatoes. We did our acts of kindness on November 12 - 13, 2011.

Selling our cookies:

3) How did it go?
It went great! At Winnipeg Harvest, we went on a tour first, then the stayed back to volunteer. I thought there were going to be more people there, but, there were actually not that many people. Also, I thought it was a bigger place, but it's quite smaller than I have thought! I felt GREAT, I love the feeling of when you know you are helping someone, it just makes me feel happy, and chill. Well, when am I not happy... I'm always happy! But I feel even more happy, like words can not describe how I feel, in a good way. I am not sure on how the people are reacting when they are receiving food, but I hope they are happy. I did not ask people to pay it forward because, I have a feeling they already know why I'm doing this.

4) Important?
Pay it forward is important because people should REALLY learn how to make a difference in the world. I hate seeing someone sad, whenever I see someone sad, I give them a BIG smile, then hope for them to smile back, sometimes they do, and sometimes they don't. Is it hard to smile at someone? No, no it isn't. I think I went off topic, but anyways, it is also important because if you want people to do a good thing to you, you should do something good to them. Has my act of kindness made a difference? Hmm... I think it did! No matter how small you do something, it still makes a difference right? Yeah..

15/11/10 Math Homework

Homework for math: What is 22 % of 80? And to do pages 36, 37, 38, and 39 in your homework booklet.

What is 22% of 80?

There are a lot of ways you can get to your answer, but..
one way you can find the answer is to...

Step 1 : Find out what 10 % of 80 is.......... the answer is 8.
Step 2 : Do that again, 10% of 80 = 8.
Step 3: Find out what 1% of 80 is .......... it is 0.8
Step 4 : Do that again, 1 % of 80 = 0.8
Step 5 : Add the percentages together ( 10% + 10% + 1% + 1% = 22%)
Step 6: Add the answers together ( 8+8+0.8+0.8 )

The way I first found out my answer was by doing this ( I don't know if this is a correct way of doing it, but I'll just tell you how ) :
Step 1 : Find 25% of 80......You get 20
Step 2 : Find what 1% of 80........ It's 0.8
Step 3 : Again, find what 1% of 80 = 0.8
Step 4 : And again, find what 1% of 80 = 0.8
Step 5 : Add the Percentages, located in the purple "thing". Equals to 3%
Step 6 : Add the decimal numbers in the purple "thing". The answer is 2.4
Step 7 : Do 20 - 2.4 = 17.6, your answer! You're probably thinking where I got 20 from, that was when we did step one.
Step 8 : Lastly, Do 25% - 3% = 22%

Homework Booklet, Page 36, number 2a.

Shade hundred grids to represent each percent ( 3 % ).

Homework Booklet, Page 37, number 3a.

She diagram as a fraction, a decimal, and a percent.

Answer: fraction : 1/4
decimal : 0.25
percent : 25 %

Homework Booklet, Page 38, number 1-4.

Match each sentence beginning in column A to an ending in column B.
1) To represent a percent great than 100%, shade more than one hundred grid.
2) To represent a fractional percent greater than 1, shade squares from a hundred grid to show the whole number and part of one square to show the fraction.
3) To represent a whole percent, shade squares on a grid of 100 squares called a hundred grid.

Homework Booklet, Page 39, number 9 a, b, c, and d.

How many hundred grids are needed to show each of the following percents? Explain your thinking.
9a) For 230%, you would need (3) hundred grids, because (2) hundred grids would be fully colored, and you would still need to color 30%, so 3.

9b) 680% would need (7) hundred grids, you always want to go one grid higher than how much hundreds you have in your number.

9c) 395% ......................... Think about it!................... Your answer, (4) hundred grids.

9d) 1420% Hmm.. Now let's think about that, you would need (15) hundred grids because, like I said in question 9b, " you always want to go one grid higher than how much hundreds you have in your number "
So, in this case, there are 14 hundreds in 1420, so you would go one grid higher, which is 15!

(When I publish this post, none of my colored fonts are showing, so sorry if it looks plain *sigh* )

3a) A bar graph, or line graph will show the information accurately.

3b) Yes I would continue. The graph shows that over the weeks, there are more and more items that are being sold.

4) I would choose the line graph to show Mrs.Mota. The reason why I would choose the line graph is because the line graph is best to show data over time and the line graph shows the trend.
