Rectangular Prism

T
The L is 5 and the W is 10.
10 x 5 = 50

F
The L is 6 and the W is 10.
10 x 6 = 60

S
The L is 6 and the W is 5.
5 x 6 = 30

TSA= 2 ( T + F + S )
= 2 ( 50 + 60 + 30 )
= 2 ( 140 )
= 280 m2

Michael's Pythagorean Relatiohnship

1. Answer in a short paragraph and with diagrams

Answer:
c2 is equals to a2 + b2.

a2 + b2 = c2
52 + 122 = c2
25 cm2 + 144 cm2 = c2
169 cm2
13 cm2

a2 + b2 = c2
62 + 82 = 112
36 + 64 = 121
100 = 121

1. Estimate the square root of each number, to one decimal place. Check with a calculator.
A. 72
B. 103
C. 55
2. Identify all possible whole numbers with a square root larger than 2 and smaller than 3.
2 x 2 = 4
3 x 3 = 9
Whole numbers are numbers that is between the perfect squares.
The whole numbers are 5, 6, 7, and 8.
3. What is an example of a whole number that has a square root between 9 and 10.
4. Identify a whole number with a square root between 11 and 12.

1. List the perfect squares immediately before and after the whole number.
2. Identify all of the whole numbers with a square root larger than 5 and smaller than 6.
26= 5.099
27= 5.196
28= 5.291
29= 5.385
30= 5.477
31 = 5.567
32 = 5.656
33 = 5.744
34 = 5.830
35 = 5.916
3. Write the perfect square immediately before and after the whole number, and then estimate the square root of the whole number to one decimal place. Check your estimates with a calculator.
4. Chelsea's square garden has an area of 60 m squared.
A. Estimate to one decimal place the side length of the garden.
Find the side length of the garden by dividing 60 by 4, 60 divided by 4 equals 7.7.
B. She has 32 m of fencing to go around the garden. Does she have enough fencing? Explain your thingking.
Yes, It's enough to fence the garden, because the side length is 7.7, chelsea's garden is square, and square is 4 sided, you multiply it by 4 and the answer is 30.8. Chelsea has 32 m of fencing the garden and the area is 30.8, Chelsea has 1.2 remaining for fencing. 30.8 is the area of the fence of the garden.

1. A herd of 100 caribou was moved to a new location. The population increased by 10% the first year and then increased by 20% the second year.

A. Find the population after the second year.

FIRST YEAR
First find the 10% of 100.
100 divided by 10= 10
the 10% of 100 is 10
then add 10 to 100.
100+10=110

SECOND YEAR
Find the 20% of 110.
110 divided by 10=11
then multiply it by 2
11 x 2= 22
the 20% of 110 is 22
then add 22 to 110
110+22= 132

The population after two years is 132 caribou.

B. Explain why there was not a 30% increase in population over two years.

The increase is not 30% because the 20% increase in the second year is based on the new population after 10% increase in the first year.

2. Chris purchased the following items:

  • 2 binders at $4.99 each
  • 1 math set for $3.99
  • a backpack for $19.99

Find the total cost including 5% GST and 7% PST.

2 binders 4.99 x 2= 9.98

$9.99

9.99 + 3.99 + 19.99 = 33.97

$34

34 x 1.12 = 38.08

$38.99

The total cost including the 12% of taxes is $38.99

3. A store discounted items by 50% off the original price one week. The following week an additional 10% was taken off the already reduced price. The regular price of a CD player was $85.00. What is the reduced price in the second week.

CD $85.00

1st week 50% off

85 divided by 2 equals $42.50

2nd week 10% of the already reduced price

42.50 divided by 10 equals $4.25

42.50 - 4.25 = $38.25

The reduced price in the second week is $4.25
