JM's Surface Area and Volume Post

Rectangular Prism

T=10 x 5 = 50
F= 10 x 6 = 60
S= 5 x 6 = 30

TSA = 2(T+F+S)
2 (50+60+30)
2 = (140)

TSA = 280 m2

Triangular Prism

l x w
10 x 5 = 50
9 x 5 = 45
8 x 5 = 40

b x h ÷ 2

9 x 8 = 72 ÷ 2 = 36
9 x 8 = 72 ÷ 2 = 36

36 + 36 = 72

TSA = 50+45+40+72
= 207 cm 2

Cylinder

d÷2 = r
8 ÷ 2 = r
4 = r

c = π d
= 3.14 x 8

= 25.12 cm

lxw
12 x 25.12 = 301.44 cm
@ = π r2
= 3.14 x 4 x 4
= 50.24 cm
TSA = circle + circle + rectangle
= 50.24 + 50.24 + 301.44
= 401.92 cm2

Volume
1. Triangular Prism
v= bxh divided by 2 x h2

5x3= 15 divided by 2 = 7. 5
7.5 x 8.5 = 63.75cm3

2. rectangular prism
v = l x w x h
20 x 8 x 16 = 2560

3. Triangular prism 3 eighths
bxh divided by 2 x h

4 x 8 divided by 2 = 16
16 x 6.5 = 104cm3
104 divided by 8 = 13 x 3 = 39cm3

4. Cylinder
r = diameter divided by 2 r = 12 divided by 2 = 6
Pi x r x r x h
3.14 x 6 x 6 x 15
= 1695.6cm3

Pythagorean Relationship

1.
a2 + b2 + c2.

Means leg (a2) + leg (b2) = the hypotenuse

2.
12 cm side is A and the 5 cm is B.
We need to find C.

C2=A2+B2
C2=12cm2+5cm2
C2=144cm2+25cm2
C2=169cm2

Now you have to find the square root.

Answer - 13 cm2

3.

To find if it is right triangle it must apply a2+b2=c2.

8cm - a
6cm - b
11cm - c

c2=a2+b2
c2=8cm2+6cm2
c2=642+362
c2=100cm2

Square root 100.
= 10

No it is not a right triangle.

Textbook Questions 5, 15, 18

5. Estimate each value, to one decimal place. Check your answer with a calculator.

√14 b) √86 c) √136

a) Find the two perfect square closets to 14. They are 9 and 16.

Find the half way point.

Since 14 is more closer to 16 the square root needs to be more than 3.5.

Estimate: 3.6

Calculation: 3.7

b) Find the two perfect square closets to 86. They are 81 and 100.
86 is smaller than the half way point. So its less than 9.5

Estimate: 9.3

Calculation: 9.2

c) Find the two perfect square closets to 136. They are 121 and 144.
136 is larger than the half way point. So its more than 11.5

Estimate: 11.7

Calculation: 11.6

15. Order the following numbers from least to greatest.

7, √46, 5.8, √27, 6.3

First you have to find the square roots of those numbers. (46 and √27)

√46 = 6.7

√27 = 5.1

In order = √27, 5.8, 6.3, √46, 7

18.

a) 3

b)
1.7

c) 1.73

d) very close

JM's Scribe Textbook 4.3 # 6,10,14

Page 142 - 143
Numbers 6,10,14

6.A

6.B

6.C

10. A
10.B
I'm not sure how to do this so I've tried
Sorry =(

4% of 100
8% of 200

I arrived at my answer because 4% x 2 = 8%
100 x 2 = 200

If I did something wrong help me out, comment. =)

JM's Pay it Forward

Part 2
My act of kindness was to donate my stuff to Canadian Diabetes.
I chose this because my mom does this every year so I just wanted to give more.
I helped people who has diabetes.
I felt good when you know you helped somebody.
I couldn't see how people reacted because they're going to get my stuff from my house.
I didn't ask them to pay it forward because I couldn't see them.
Part 4
The idea "Pay it Forward" is an important idea because you can help somebody and somebody else helps another person and creates a chain.
I hope my Pay it Forward will make a difference.
I will still do more and ask people to pay it forward.

JM's Graphing Post

1. Use your notes to list the different types of graphs. Please list the advantages and disadvantages of each graph.

Bar Graph -
Advantage - best for comparing two sets of data across categories
Disadvantage - not accurate if the intervals are going up to big and you can't compare more than two sets of data

Double Bar Graph -
Advantage - best for comparing two sets of data across categories
Disadvantage -

Circle Graphs -
Advantage -best for comparing categories to the whole using percents. The sum of the percents in a circle graph is 100%.
Disadvantage - you have to figure out the percentages in the data

Line Graphs - Advantage - are best for showing changes in data overtime. Line graphs usually shows a trend.
Disadvantage - if the interval are to big apart, might not be able to see clearly

Pictograph -
Advantage - best for comparing data that can easily counted and represented using symbols
Disadvantage - not clear is less than a whole

2. How can graphs be misleading. Show 3 ways.

1. Distorting the Scale - making the break in the y axis.

2. Distorting the visuals - making the pictures in the pictograph bigger.

3. Distorting the size of bars - making 1 bar look bigger

2a) The following chart shows Pizza Sub Sales over a month. What 2 graphs would show the information accurately?

The two graphs that would show the the information accurately are bar graphs and a line graph.

2b) If you were selling Pizza Subs would you continue? How does your graph explain your answer.

I would still keep selling Pizza Subs.

The reason is that the trend is increasing.

4. Below you see 2 different examples of graphs showing healthy choices sold at the canteen. If you had to convince Mrs Mota that we should continue selling healthy choices which graph would you choose?

I would use line graph because it looks more impressive, its also really used for changes over time.

4a) Change each graph so that your information looks even MORE impressive. You may not change the data just the graphs.

Line graph - change intervals
Pictographs - represents 2 sold instead of 4

Jm's Proportion Post

Task 1 =
Proportion - is an equation which states that two ratios are equal.
Ratio - a comparison of quantities that have the same units.
Rate - compares quantities measure in different units.

Task 2 =
1. 5 hours to travel 360 miles is about _________ mph
5 divided 5 = 1, so 360 divided 5 = 72

2. As a playgroup worker, if increase the amount of apple choice I'm serving at the playgroup from 25 ml to 100 ml, how much should I increase the apple juice to keep the quantities in the same proportion? The orange juice is 50 ml to start with.
Task 3 =

Sorry I didn't use the ones on the instructions. I didn't see them =(

Task 4 =

f

Task 5 =

1. I don't think this is fair.

2. This isn't fair because a man stole 3 billion$ and gets 3.4 years in prison
and Roy stole 100$ and gets in prison for 25 years.

3. I would put put the man who stole 3B for 20 years and Roy for a month.
