Text book pages 98-100

4. Estimate the square root of each number, to one decimal place.
a) 72 b) 55 c) 103
10. Kai uses an entire can of paint on a square backdrop for the school play. The label on the can states that one can covers 27 m2 of wall surface. Estimate the backdrop's side length to one decimal place.
S= 5.2 cm

17. Carmel wants to mount an 18 cm x 18 cm square picture on a square board that is four times the area of the picture.

a) What is the area of the picture ?

To find the area of the picture, multiply 18 cm x 18 cm = 324 cm2.
324 cm2 is the area of the picture.

b) What is the area of the board?

To find the area of the board, multiply 324 cm2 x 4 = 1296.
The area of the board is 1296 cm2 which is 4x the area of the picture.

c) What is the dimensions of the board?

To find dimensions, find the square root of 1294 cm2
The square root of 1294 cm2 is 36 cm.1. Explain the Pythagorean Relationship
The two sides of the triangle would equal the hypotenuse. It can also be known as the two legs equal the hypotenuse. a² and b² would be the legs, and both of the amounts would add up to c² (hypotenuse).

2. Find the missing side length.3. Is this a right triangle?
No, it is not a right triangle. Because the two legs of the triangle do not equal the hypotenuse.
